Although I've maintained a life long passion for space exploration my suspicion is that this piece is more about human perception. It reminds me of the Bob Dylan lyric, "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." The astronaut shown here chooses to view the dangerous meteorite shower through the filter of his computer monitor, when in fact, all he need do is look out the window to behold the genuine event.
