THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND

10" x 17" mixed media

I was transfixed by roadside signage as a boy, especially those that employed three dimensional figures. One of my favorites was for a local pest exterminator that showed a silly looking man in a top hat hiding a giant mallet behind his back as he approached a curious mouse. The influence such artifacts had on me is evident in this piece. To my eye it would look right at home revolving atop a pole next to a busy freeway – with wide eyed children peering at it from the passing cars.
